This page is intended for use at the regional championships. However, as it contains information on customizing the announcer's awards sheet, it may be applicable to local and invitational contests.
The sliding scale is used at regional championships.
At a minimum, the top 4 placements in an event qualify for
the National Championships. If the event is large, the
sliding scale permits more skaters to qualify for the
National Championships. However, only three skaters at
the regional championships go to the podium.
This page deals with setting up TABW so the announcer's award
sheet prints correctly.
The Event Information field "# of placements awarded" determines how many contestants will qualify for the national championships. This is where the sliding scale is implemented.
In a region where the sliding scale actually comes into play, it is an annoying error to tabulate and print an event and then realized that we are sending 5 or 6 instead of 4 to Nationals. You go and fix the "# of placements awarded" and do it again. To cut down on this error, there is a check box in the preferences panel titled "Verify placements when tabulating". If this box is checked, when you press Tabulate on a final event, you will get a pop up question asking you to verify the number of placements. If you change the number in the box, it is changed in the event information.
The panel shown with "Edit->Award Script" is where you specify how many placements go to the podium, what is printed for each of these placements, and what to do with the remaining placements. In addition, what is printed at the top and bottom of the announcer's awards sheet is specified on this panel.
The following two samples shows what happens when the "Text For Other Placements" set of radio buttons is set each way. The first sample is for "List Names Under Following Text" and the second sample is for "Use the Placement Number".
